Abstract:
This paper presents the results of studies on the bending moments in continuous beams caused by uniformly distributed load exerted over full span lengths of beam. An elastic analysis based on moment distribution method is attempted to deduce the coefficients of negative and positive moments for continuous beams through computing 2000 examples with adopting beams of two spans, three spans and four spans and changing their spans lengths. The results are summarized in several charts for the convenience of practical estimation of these coefficients of bending moments. The values of the coefficients of negative and positive bending moments can be easily derived from the charts with a sufficient accuracy emphasized by some numerical examples carried in this paper.
